Summer Youth Ministry Intern

Edmonton, AB, Canada

Key Responsibilities

  • Summer programming and events for youth ages 10 to 18.

  • Spiritually nurturing youth by modelling a Christ-directed life.

  • Lead and facilitate Plot, which is a weekly drop-in ministry.  This involves planning activities, booking special services, recruiting and leading a volunteer team, advertising, as well as hands-on work with the teens.

  • Partner with other community organizations in planning events.

  • Developing and leading a week-long day camp for youth in July, including but not limited to planning five days of activities, creating and advertising registration/permission forms, recruiting volunteers to teach a skill for each day or half-day (such as basketball, soccer, cake decorating, cooking, creative writing, painting, etc.), recruiting volunteers to provide lunches, purchasing supplies (if necessary), writing a 10-minute devotional for each day, as well as hands-on work with the teens.

  • Planning and leading two one-day activities for youth, including but not limited to deciding on two activities for youth to take part in, scheduling the activities, recruiting volunteers to lead (and/or drive) for the event, creating and advertising registration/permission forms, and fostering relationships with the teens who attend.

  • Assist in planning and facilitating the annual Canada Day community celebration, including but not limited to working alongside the Pastor of Outreach and Missions and Children’s Intern to decide on task distribution in planning activities, recruiting volunteers, purchasing or acquiring donations for necessary items, and sharing a lead role for the event.

  • Assist in the execution of the Year End Youth Gala, including but not limited to planning and creating decorations based on the theme for the event, purchasing and setting up food, and writing a short 10-to-15-minute devotional for youth.

  • Assist in the execution of other community events, including but not limited to acquiring volunteers for set-up and cleaning, purchasing supplies, advertising, and engaging with the community.

 

Additional Responsibilities/Requirements:

  • Must provide a current Police Security Check including a Vulnerable Sector search.

  • Will work closely with the Youth Ministry staff/volunteers and the Children’s Intern.

  • Will attend weekly staff meetings and other meetings as required.

  • Will be trained in Plan to Protect policies and procedures and ensure these are upheld in all summer programs.

  • Other tasks as directed by Youth Ministry Staff.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • A heart for God displayed in everyday life.

  • Leadership skills and a genuine heart for reaching children and youth within our community.

  • Ability or willingness to recruit and lead volunteers from a wide pool.

  • Experience with and a love for children and youth.

  • Joy and enthusiasm in serving.

  • Current education in social services, education, or religious studies is preferred.

  • A driver’s license and access to a vehicle is preferred.

  • Must be willing to make Bethel their home church during the term of employment.

  • Must have most weekdays and some evenings/weekends available during their placement.

  • Experience in promotions is an asset.

  • As this position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant, candidates must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred and be between the ages of 15 and 30.

 

TIME COMMITMENT

  • 35 hours per week for 14 consecutive weeks.*

  • This position starts May 21, 2024, and ends on August 23, 2024.*

 

SPIRITUAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Combination of leadership, teaching, creativity, administration, and evangelism.

 

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Relational and organized.

  • Passion for the spiritual formation of children and youth.
