Bethel Youth

Welcome to the Bethel Youth Page. We are in the process of rethinking what it means to be a youth group, and I would love to invite you to join us as we grow and learn together what it means to be a community of believers who follow Jesus. Everyone here at Bethel believes that the main way that we can grow as followers of Jesus is in a context of relationship and community. So that is what we would like to invite you into. Come and join us, introduce yourself, and have some fun!

Catalyst.jpg

A Catalyst refers to something that causes change in another thing. That is also the goal of Catalyst at Bethel, to be a place where we spur one another onto becoming more like Christ. It exists to create Community and therefore to form us, to change us into vibrant disciples of Jesus.

Practically speaking this looks like a few things, a Catalyst night will start at 7:00pm with a relaxed time of hanging out. We will typically then play some games for a half hour or so (think capture the flag, dodgeball, sardines). We follow this up with a short time of musical worship and teaching for the week. Lastly, we break up into smaller groups so that we can discuss the passage for the week and unpack how some of these topics practically affect our lives. We will often end our night with a brief time of prayer for one another.

Overall, this is a time of fun, and community building. It is a chance to get to know one another well, a place to belong to a larger community, and a place to get to know some of the details of following Christ.

Catalyst will be taking place on May 3rd & 24th!

Youth - Paul and Pancakes (1).png

Paul and Pancakes is an opportunity for youth to gather for fellowship and Bible study while making  and eating pancakes together. On the third Sunday of each month, youth will meet in the downstairs kitchen of Bethel during the worship service (meeting during "connect time" - when Bethel Kids gets dismissed). We will make pancakes together in the kitchen while discussing a "question of the week" and then eat our pancakes while watching a 10-minute devotional video and discussion studying one of the letters Paul wrote to the early churches.

The series we will be going through in the fall is Jennie Allen's "The Book of Corinthians" series. Description and link to trailer for the series is below:

Christianity calls us to sacrifice instead of living for oneself. We have to choose one or the other—

we can't do both. The Christians in Corinth tried to live the Christian life in a worldly way. Paul

wrote the letter of 1 Corinthians to a divided and self-centered people to remind them to follow

                       Jesus and only Jesus.

In this 12-part series, author and speaker Jennie Allen walks into the messy lives of the

Corinthians and takes us through Paul’s words to the conflicted church. We'll see how the truth

of the gospel and the Spirit of God can empower us to choose to follow Jesus every day of our lives.

Youth - Missions.png

Since 2011, Bethel Youth have been in a partnership with Centro Biblico Familiar El Sembrador church in Hermosillo, Mexico. Over the past several years Bethel Youth has seen the church flourish. The church was established in 2006 in a room at the back of the Pastor's house. Our first youth team met in this space with Pastor Arturo and the Aguirre family during our first trip to Hermosillo in 2011. The following year they were able to acquire land and build a church in a newly developing part of the city. All the while, Pastor Arturo and his family have been able to minister to the community around their home and around the church through Vacation Bible Schools, praying for people at hospitals, delivering food bags to those in need, hosting sports tournaments and much more. In 2017 they began ministering to communities along the west coast of Mexico (in Punta Chueca, Bahia Kino and Miguel Aleman) and frequently drive a few hours to the coast to minister to the Seri (indigenous community) people of Punta Chueca.

Through our partnership with Centro Biblico Familiar El Sembrador and the Aguirre family, our youth have the opportunity to grow in their faith while impacting the world for Christ and encouraging our brothers and sisters in Christ.

After our recent 2023 missions trip, our youth team expressed a desire to bring a team from the church in Mexico to Canada to partner with the ministry Bethel is doing in Edmonton. They want our partner church in Mexico to see with their own eyes what the biggest needs of our community are so they know how best to be praying for the ministries in Canada. The church in Hermosillo has a goal of raising 10,000USD to cover the majority of the cost of flights to Canada, while our youth team hopes to fundraise the remaining amount needed for flights, accommodations, and food. Throughout the year, we will have a few fundraiser events to raise funds for this initiative. We pray that a team of youth and young adults will join us in Canada for a week during the summer of 2024.
