This Week At Bethel February 27, 2026 This Sunday Church Family News Announcements Community News Calendar Bulletin Archive This Sunday This Sunday, we continue our sermon series for Lent, When the Word of the Lord Came , by exploring how God provides for us in the wilderness. God sends his word to the prophet, Elijah, declaring there will be a drought in the land. However, as everyone reacts with panic and distress about the lack of water and food, God works behind the scenes, providing for Elijah and a widow’s family. When we experience great need, we are tempted to doubt God’s care for us, and yet it is in the midst of desperation that God proves himself most generous. The message this Sunday will focus on 1 Kings 17: “When Faith Seems Impossible.” For a book overview of 1-2 Kings from the BibleProject, please see our sermon series resources: here For the past messages of the series, subscribe and follow our podcast: discoverbethel.com/podcasts Our Sunday Offerings: BETHEL MINISTRIES AND MISSION : The ministries and programs of Bethel HONDURAS WATER PROJECT: This is a partnership between The King’s University, World Renew, the Northern Alberta Diaconal Conference and Diaconia Nacional (Honduras) for over 20 years. The Honduras Water Project provides a service-learning opportunity for students to apply their knowledge by bringing running water to impoverished people in Honduras and to gain cultural experiences outside Canada. Register here . If you are unable to attend this training session or have any questions, please contact Joanne Luimes. LENT: Lent has begun. We have officially started the season of Lent following Ash Wednesday this week. Lent is a season often associated with prayer and fasting for Christians as we follow Christ’s journey to the cross. . We invite everyone to consider how they can intentionally pray during this upcoming season of life together. Also, please check our Lenten resources, such as a guide for fasting and a Lenten devotional from Christianity Today, visit discoverbethel.com/resources “LEAVE A PRAYER, TAKE A PRAYER” STATION: For Lent, we want to be intentional about praying for one another and the concerns on our hearts. There is a station in the back of the sanctuary where you can leave prayer requests in the basket and take a prayer request with you. You do not need to leave a name with the prayer (but can if you are comfortable doing so). We ask that everyone respect the confidentiality of the request, but also to pray intentionally, however specific the request might be. NOMINATIONS FOR COUNCIL MEMBERS: With the start of a new year, it's a good time to think about Bethel's mission. A key factor in fulfilling that mission relies on the many different people who serve in our church. Within that group are the church leaders, our Council comprised of Elders and Deacons. Each year, a number of these leaders finish their terms and need to be replaced. That is where you come in. We ask you to prayerfully consider who would make good, Christ-centered leaders for the different roles on Council: Governing Elder, Shepherding Elder and Deacons. As most of our Shepherding Elders are completing their terms this year, please pray for provision in this vital area of leadership. To nominate someone: • We recommend that you talk with the person you are discerning nominating so you can confirm that they are able and willing to prayerfully consider serving on Council • Please confirm they are a member of Bethel Community Church 3 • Please send us an email with their name to clerk@discoverbethel.com and a brief reason why you believe he or she is qualified to serve in this role If you have any questions about the nominations process and the expectations of these roles, please contact Arnold Groot (Governing Elder). DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS IS MARCH 8. MEN’S MINISTRY: The next Men’s Breakfast will be this Saturday, February 21st, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. We invite men of all ages to join us for food and fellowship.
